Built in 1890 as a one-room schoolhouse in Munster, Ontario, Ashlar has been a place of gathering for over 130 years. Just 25 minutes from downtown Ottawa, this heritage space is designed for intimate weddings of 30 to 65 guests and couples who value intention, atmosphere, and timeless character. There is one wedding a day, so the schoolhouse, the courtyard and the gardens are yours from the afternoon until your last song, and dinner is cooked on site by our culinary team.

How a wedding at Ashlar works

Exclusive Venue Use
The entire building, courtyard and grounds are yours from arrival until late evening, with no other events and no shared spaces, so the only people on the property are your people.

Chef-Driven Fine Dining
Our chef brings 30 years of fine dining to every menu. Each course is built from scratch around what is in season, and every dietary need and allergy is handled before your guests sit down.

Ceremony and Reception
You can exchange vows in the private stone courtyard, dine under string lights in the tent as the sun sets, and when the night turns, dance outside or step inside the restored schoolhouse to close it out. Indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces are decided on the day and the tent is weather-proof, so a wet forecast changes the room and not the plan.

Full Bar and Coordination
Table wine comes with dinner, and open bar packages for cocktail hour, late night or the full evening are priced per guest. Parking, tables, chairs, linens and the sound system are already taken care of, and a dedicated venue director runs the day from your first planning meeting to the end of the night, so you don't have to.
Chef Josh Gillard
He has spent 30 years in Ottawa's best kitchens and is Head Chef at Amuse Kitchen and Wine, which he co-owns. He joined Ashlar because he wanted to cook for 30 people who all know each other, not 300 who don't.
