Ashlar is a wedding and event venue in a restored 1890 stone schoolhouse in Munster, Ontario, about 25 minutes from downtown Ottawa, and the four people on this page own and run it. It hosts one wedding a day for 30 to 65 guests, with exclusive use of the entire property. A $2,500 venue fee applies to every date. Your date then sets the price per guest, which starts at $169.
We didn't build Ashlar to fill a gap in the market. We built it because we kept imagining what a wedding could feel like if every detail was handled by people who actually cared. Our team embodies a shared belief that hospitality means something more than logistics: that the food should be the best meal your guests have all year, that the building itself should tell a story, and that your love and favourite people should be the focus of your day.
Venue Director
Madison runs every tour, coordinates every timeline, and is the first person you'll talk to when you reach out. She brings 10 years of experience in PR and brand strategy. She built Ashlar's experience from the couple's perspective: what do you need to feel taken care of on the most important day of your life? That question drives every decision she makes.
Culinary Director
Josh has spent 30 years in Ottawa's best kitchens and is Head Chef at Amuse Kitchen and Wine, which he co-owns with Laurie. Josh joined Ashlar because he wanted to cook for 30 people who all know each other, not 300 who don't. He builds every menu from scratch around what's in season, what's local, and what your guests actually eat. He'll know your dietary restrictions before you sit down.
Director of Finance
Laurie keeps the numbers honest and the operations running. She brings more than 30 years in hospitality and communications, and she co-owns Amuse Kitchen and Wine with Josh. She's the one who makes sure the all-inclusive promise actually works, that the pricing is fair, and every couple gets exactly what they were told they'd get.
Director of Growth
Rylan handles the marketing, the website, and the strategy behind getting Ashlar in front of the right couples. He's the reason you're reading this right now. His job is to make sure the people who'd love this place actually find it.
